Dr. Ofer Zur, Renowned Psychologist and Advocate for Justice, Passes Away at 75

Santa Rosa, California Dr. Ofer Zur, a renowned psychologist, forensic expert, and Fellow of the American Psychological Association, died on February 19, 2025.

Dr. Zur was well-known for his contributions to psychology, ethics, and forensic studies. His commitment to intellectual growth and passion for the truth earned him respect from colleagues, students, and friends. He founded the Zur Institute, which provided education and resources to mental health professionals worldwide. His dedication to justice and human dignity was a distinguishing feature that inspired many.

Aside from academia, Dr. Zur was an adventurer at heart. His love of the ocean, as well as his curiosity about the natural world, drove him to spend his life exploring. Whether delving into deep philosophical discussions or questioning conventional wisdom, he was always eager to broaden his understanding and share his knowledge with others.

His death has had a significant impact on those who knew him. Friends and colleagues have shared heartfelt tributes on social media. Ayelet Schafir-Hirshfeld called him a “sincere, compassionate leader in the field of ethics and forensic psychology.” Nancy Carleton expressed her “heartfelt condolences,” and Jo Ann Towle said, “What an extraordinary, deeply loving, and brilliant man I felt privileged to have crossed paths with.”

Dr. Zur leaves behind his wife, Jennifer, and three children, Azzia, Eitan, and Ilan. His family has asked that those who want to honor his memory consider donating to Amnesty International or another cause that aligns with their pursuit of justice and progress.

His wisdom, integrity, and fearless spirit will be greatly missed, but his legacy will continue to inspire those whose lives he influenced.
