George Feldenkreis, Miami, Florida

Miami, Florida presents At 89, George Feldenkreis, the powerful Perry Ellis International founder, passed away on February 21, 2025.

Built from modest beginnings, Feldenkreis created a worldwide fashion empire and was much-loved in the Miami corporate and charitable circles. Born in Havana, Cuba, he left with his family to travel to the United States in 1961 carrying barely $700. Beginning with Carfel, an automotive part company, his entrepreneurial path led him into the fashion business and turned Supreme International into the internationally known Perry Ellis brand.

Apart from his outstanding economic success, George was quite dedicated to the Jewish and Cuban communities. He was a long-time board member of the Greater Miami Jewish Federation and a trustee of the University of Miami, so his generosity covered a variety of causes. His creations permanently changed the fashion scene as well as Miami.

From everywhere, social media tributes have come in. “George embodied resilience, vision and heart,” Daniel Shoer Roth wrote. Other fellow community members also expressed their grief; Miriam Armenguer said, “My sympathies to his family and friends. RIP. much

George leaves behind Fanny Hanono, Oscar and Ellen Feldenkreis, Mariita, children, and a number of grandchildren. His legacy of compassion and fortitude will inspire always.
